So last week it was off to the Farnes, our little trope is growing, since I first made that trip 4 years ago, the following year my brother joined me, last year a friend Janice and her son joined us, and this year we were joined by her eldest boy, the weather had not been too bad but not like the previous years, and rain threatened the boat trip the following day
we had been keeping our eye on the weather for over a week, we prepared ourselves for the "what if"
We headed to the harbour in the morning to see if the sail was going ahead, at that point it didn't look to bad, we got our tickets and then headed over to the Harbour Kitchen Van for breakfast, as we ate our breakie we were joined by some of the local chicks and it didn't take long before the flocked around my brother begging him to feed them, as you will see in the image below, before long we were out in the boat and on the Staple Island but the weather was a real challenge as the clouds rolled past, The Puffins were performing well, I am convinced they really do pose for the camera they are such little characters I was trying to concentrate on flight shots, while I was there, and some close up portrait type shots of the Shags, I love their emerald green eyes, about 40 minutes before we were due back on the boat to go over to Inner Farne the heavens opened and down came the rain in one quick burst and then frequent showers after that, we boarded the boat and we were just heading to the Inner Farne When the skipper received a call to say the Rangers had closed the island, so a sail around the Staple and then back to harbour, the rain on and of the whole time, it looked like that it was on for the rest of the day but in the evening, it was beautiful the sun shone and we got some more shots with some nice light on Bamburgh Castle, Looking forward to next year's trip.
