Open Letter on the Findhorn Beach Huts.
I cant express my shock and disgust at this idea, it is so wrong on so many levels.
I have been coming to Findhorn for over 30 years, I have seen many changes I cant say all have been for the best, but this has to be the worst idea/plan ever and to those who approved it should hang their head in shame.
Not only have I been coming to Findhorn for over 30 years, most of these visits were two or 3 times a year, I have walked the shore line in the footsteps of my ancestors who walked and worked on this shoreline for at least 300 years, I grew up on stories my grandfather and his brother told me about Findhorn, it's beauty, the people, and of the two shorelines that is the bay and back shore, how nature shaped it though the centuries giving it the natural beauty we see today, I still have distant family in the village to this very day.
Take a trip to the Falconer and Elgin museums and look there I am sure you will find items from in and around Findhorn dating back thousands of years also take a trip to the Findhorn Heritage centre and learn about the village history. However there are many other treasures that lie around Findhorn that you won't find in any museum.
The sand lizard warming in the summer sun, many varieties of plant life some you may only find in the Moray coast, various invertebrates, the bird life and small mammals that have their home among the 7 miles of unspoiled natural coastline, which to my knowledge over the years is a nature reserve.
Sand lizards feed on small invertebrates like spiders, grass hoppers, slugs and insects, prefer a dry sandy or heath-land habitat. Unfortunately, due to human encroachment onto heath-land and the loss of sand dunes during the 20th century, sand lizards are now increasingly rare in Britain, how many once common birds etc are on the red list we are at risk of losing, 30 years ago I heard Yellow Hammers, and Linnets constantly at Findhorn they are on the red list now
It is time for man to realise that putting profit and greed before the environment/nature is not acceptable, if it doesn't make money or gets in the way of making money, or doesn't suit destroy or kill it, so future generations will have nothing, Man is the most destructive Mammal on this planet, I see no benefit to the community of Findhorn, with these huts what I do see is someone lining their own pocket and the expense of the natural environment,
I noted it said the beach huts could significantly enhance Findhorn as a tourist destination!!!!.
Well on that point..... I only have this to say Findhorn has managed as a tourist destination for many years, Why because it is Natural Unspoiled Beauty, with some fantastic views, it certainly doesn't need the beach huts to give it that status ..............it already has it,
This is the sort of thing I would expect to see at Southend on Sea, Southwald, Whitbay, not on Findhorn,
And I know those who have financial interests in the huts will be saying Tree Hugger, from Argyll, let me tell you I am no tree hugger, my roots are in Findhorn, I have a passion for nature and Natural Wild spaces.
